MANILA, Philippines -- Environment Secretary Lito Atienza on Friday ordered the cancellation of tax declarations issued to claimants of a four-hectare wetland in Barangay Yapak and a one-hectare wetland in Barangay Balabag, both on Boracay Island.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources noted that the two areas were up for commercial development.
“While Boracay is synonymous to white beaches, we must not forget that there are other ecosystems on the island that must be accorded utmost protection and conservation measures,” Atienza said in a statement Sunday. > > > [ full story ]
